Episode Description

Join us today with guest Chief Bisa French for an in depth discussion on connecting, engaging, and the new era of community policing in Richmond, CA just 16 miles northeast of San Francisco. Richmond boasts a great diversity of backgrounds with over 180 different ethnic or cultural origins including- from largest to smallest populations, Chinese, Filipino, English, Hong Konger, Scottish, Indian, Canadian, Irish, Taiwanese, and German ( as of July 2023). 54% of the population identifies as Chinese, while 80.3% is visibly a minority which is only second to British Columbia. This population also includes Black, Arab, Latin American and Korean residents. With such a vast and diverse community the Richmond Police Department strives to balance the needs of both it’s service providers and those they serve in an evolving environment of rapid growth and rising crime. Chief French is an early adopter of resilience and wellness platforms like Rippleworx to support these needs. Thanks to their community partners, at RPD they just celebrated a successful police week and continue to be a leader in their industry reducing crime and suppressing violent crimes in particular while leveling up their leadership, team work and collaboration as a department. Chief French shares insights and a view of the future in law enforcement and public safety from the first female, Latino Chief in Richmond, CA with more than 23 years on the force in today’s episode.
