The Child of GULAG shows you the enlightened perspective of a former citizen of the Soviet Union who became a political refugee, and how current issues affecting the United States are tied to issues of the not so distant past and their future implications. Our program encourages discussion of a number of issues at the forefront, including, but not limited to History, Politics, Ethics, Special Education, Physical and Mental Developmental Disabilities, Medicine, Religion, Democracy, and Government.

Dr. Yuri C. Feynberg

Dr. Yuri Feynberg was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1970 he graduated from Leningrad Pedagogical Institute, currently St. Petersburg Pedagogical University, with a MA in Special Education and Speech Pathology. There he worked as a special education teacher and speech therapist in residential school of 450 students with developmental disabilities where he later became the principal. In 1979 he came to the United States as a political refugee. In the Unites States, he attended NYU where he earned his Public Administration Doctoral degree while working as an Administrator of the Specialty Hospital for Children at Terence Cardinal Cooke Healthcare Center in Manhattan. In 1991 he started Life Adjustment Center, a non-profit agency for the developmentally disabled, which he currently oversees while pursuing his many educational and developmental endeavors.
