Julie’s husband, Rick, was CEO of HCFS and died last year after a long fight. Julie, as a housewife and mother of two, was thrust into the executive seat, elected by the board of directors to continue the company mission of adding value to hospitals and focusing on patients. Her story is remarkable journey in learning the business side of HCFS as well as using her strengths to bring the company employees into closer alignment. She models the new executive skills of being able to bridge the hard business process with cooperation and engagement of employees. While the company stalled while her husband was sick, it is now facing new challenges of “hockey stick” growth and dealing with improving processes and hiring employees to adjust.
