Episode Description
Girls Who Code reports that by 2020, there will be 1.4 million jobs available in computing-related fields, but women are on track to fill only about 3% of these, a paltry 45,000 or so of these positions. That is really pathetic; While voice-activated innovation is important, Augmented reality will be even more significant with applications in the professional, medical and accessibility spaces; Now sensor technology is about to disrupt the fashion world with clothing tags automatically scanned at New York galleries, restaurants, bars, public transport etc to unlock certain perks; The notion that workers’ skills can suddenly become obsolete raises concern about whether institutions and social safety nets are equipped. There is a deep lack of preparation to help workers absorb economic shocks like automation, productivity gains, geographic shifts and, perhaps most importantly, deep economic downturns.
