Nancy Gershman
Nancy Gershman is a prescriptive artist (i.e., fine artist co-creating healing artwork for stuck individuals). Each Healing Dreamscape is informed by a preferred story realized with the client, composed of positively-infused photos, memories and dreams. Nancy re-contextualizes these elements, infusing them with new insights gleaned from therapy. By speaking to the emotional brain, these highly realistic, wished-for realities encourage clients to pursue happiness, even in the face of triggers. A Disenchantment Dreamscape for Kathy derives its power from a highly embarrassing memory. Incorporated into the visual narrative, it acts as a sort of self-directed blackmail to deter the unwanted behavior. In the same piece is also an incentive that provides counter balance and a goal: Kathy wanted to become a new mother and run a marathon. Learning she once hid the contents of her purging in a blue plastic shopping bag, Nancy depicted her racing in a blue rain slicker with vomit on her chest.
