Joan Faier-Routman, Ph.D.
Dr. Faier-Routman is passionate about her work as a licensed clinical psychologist, helping individuals and families navigate the cancer journey. She has more than twenty years of clinical experience which she applies to her work with clients experiencing chronic illness, such as heart disease, diabetes, fertility issues or MS. She has worked in a variety of settings, including university medical centers, community mental health centers and independent practice. She has worked in an integrative cancer treatment center as a mind-body therapist, providing psychological interventions to individual patients and their family members. She developed and facilitated a weekly support group to educate groups of cancer patients about strategies they can employ to manage the difficult consequences of cancer. Joan Faier-Routman, Ph.D. also trained at the Family Institute of Chicago, earning a post-graduate certificate in marital and family therapy. She utilizes this training to integrate the family system in her work. In addition to her specialization in chronic illness, Dr. Faier-Routman has expertise in working with adults and children coping with anxiety disorders, including OCD and social anxiety. She uses cognitive-behavioral strategies to help clients manage stress, panic and other problems. She especially enjoys her work with children and families experiencing separation anxiety, school difficulties, and parenting issues. She has always been interested in the integration of health and emotional issues and coaches children, teens and adults on wellness issues, such as diet, sleep hygiene, exercise, and the prevention of health risks.
