Deb Gordon-Gurfinkel



Deb Gordon-Gurfinkel is the founder and director of Telling It and a lecturer at the U. of Michigan’s Residential College. A native of Great Britain who has lived in the States since 1986, Deb earned her Bachelor degree in Education from London’s Central School of Speech and Drama. She worked as a teacher in some of London’s more challenging inner city schools before moving to the States. In San Francisco, Deb focused her skills on the most vulnerable members of the community and started a program that used the arts as an intervention to support the learning and development of children in homeless shelters. As a result, Deb received an award from the N.E.A. to continue her work and to access more children. After moving to the Midwest, Deb founded Telling It. Awards include: Roslyn and Jimmy Carter Award (finalist), President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities’ Coming Up Taller Award (semi-finalist), and the Ginsberg Award for Outstanding Faculty Member.
