Dr. Maureen (Mo) Smith


Dr. Smith is a Professor of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at California State University, Sacramento. Active member and officer in both North American Society for Sociology of Sport (NASSS) and North American Society for Sport History (NASSH), Maureen recently received the NASSH Sport History Book award for Re(presenting Wilma Rudolf), Syracuse University Press, co-authored with Dr. Rita Liberti. Smith’s research interests vary including material culture in sport especially statues, African American sporting experiences in the 20th century, and topics on women in Olympic and Paralympic Games. Drs. Smith and Liberti are co-editing a collection for 2017 publication entitled San Francisco Bay Area Sports: Golden Gate Athletics, Recreation and Community from University of Arkansas Press.
