Eugene Monroe
Former Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Eugene Monroe is a vocal medical cannabis advocate who has recently criticized the NFL’s drug policy, which bans the use of medical cannabis while continuing to support the reliance on opiates that have led to addiction in the league. Monroe was released from his $37.5 million contract with the Ravens earlier this year and in July announced his retirement from the NFL due to extensive injuries that have led him to miss 15 games over the last two years. Now that he has retired, Monroe continues to advocate for the use of medical cannabis, donating $80,000 to Johns Hopkins and the University of Pennsylvania to study the medical benefits of cannabis, and investing a share of at least 5% with Green Thumb Industries (GTI), an Illinois-based cultivation company with a dispensary license to operate in Nevada.
