Linda Dyer
Linda Dyer heads a unique program for the Thoroughbred Retirement Fund at the Blackburn Correctional Institution where she teaches inmates how to care for thoroughbred horses and potentially become skilled enough to get employment after their release.
The thoroughbreds were removed from an alleged animal neglect situation in Mercer County and now 8 horses are being cared for by inmates in the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation at Blackburn Correctional Facility.
It’s a process many of those serving time will be around for and Dyer hopes will learn from. The TRF Program teaches inmates the skills needed to be an employee on a thoroughbred farm when they get out.
"It teaches them responsibility, a work ethic, respect that they may not have had before, and a lot of compassion," Dyer said.
