Dr. Owen Williamson
Dr. Owen Williamson trained as an orthopedic surgeon in Melbourne, Australia and specialized in spine and trauma surgery. He joined the Department of Epidemiology and Preventative Medicine, Monash University, Australia, where he began to study the long term effects of trauma, particularly the development of chronic pain and associated mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorders.
Through personal and occupational experience, he also became aware of consequences of witnessing and treating trauma amongst first-responders and other health care professionals.
Dr. Williamson migrated to Canada in 2011; he is the President of Pain Medicine Physicians of BC; Head of the Section of Pain Medicine, Doctors of BC; Chair of the Academic Pain Directors of Canada and Chair of the Ethical and Legal issues in Pain Special Interest group, International Association for the study of pain
