Jean Johnson


Jean recently retired from the field of higher education after forty years. Her career started in education as college professor of computer science. During her 23 years in the position as Dean at City Colleges of Chicago, her philosophy was to develop a school that would embrace lifelong learning, promote the development of positive relationships, foster academic achievement, embrace diversity and respect, adaptability, and life success. Jean was diagnosed with Stage 4 laryngeal cancer in 2012 and later with bladder cancer. She is currently an active member of the University of Chicago Medicine Cancer Services Patient and Family Council and has just begun working with patients as a volunteer in the areas of infusion and in-patient cancer services.
