Randi Weingarten
Randi Weingarten is President of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), a 1.7 million member union. Randi was elected in 2008 following 12 yrs as president of New York City’s United Federation of Teachers & 6 years teaching at Clara Barton High School. Randi spearheaded development of Share My Lesson, the largest free collection of educational resources created by a union for educators & parents. Randi & the AFT lead a partnership to transform McDowell County, WV, one of the poorest counties in the US, through efforts to improve the quality of education & focus on jobs, housing, healthcare & social services. The AFT has led the way to invest $16 billion since 2014 in pension assets in US infrastructure, creating 100,000+ jobs. Randi served on the congressional Equity and Excellence Commission, NY Gov. Cuomo’s Common Core Task Force & the 2016 Democratic National Committee platform committee. Randi’s column “What Matters Most” appears monthly in the New York Times’ Sunday Review.
