Kenneth Mason
Mr. Kenneth Mason was appointed to the Georgia State Board of Education in 2011 and represents metro Atlanta in the Fifth Congressional District. He is an Instructional Coach at the Southern Regional Education Board where he promotes college and career readiness for all students. Mr. Mason earned a B.S. in Physics from Hendrix College in Arkansas in 1998 and helped to launch an afterschool youth science enrichment and empowerment program for children in a neighboring rural school district. He later joined the Teach For America (TFA) corps and chose to teach science in East Oakland, CA. While teaching at Castlemont High School he earned his graduate degree from the University of San Francisco. He is a founding board member for KIPP Strive Academy, a nationally recognized middle school in Atlanta. Kenneth has been honored to work with thousands of young leaders on a Civil Rights emergent experience called the Sojourn Project and is currently supporting the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Institute in Jackson, MS. Mason was also selected as a fellow Bailey-Sullivan Leadership Institute Fellowship organized by Black Alliance for Educational Options (BAEO). He is proud to have two scholars at KIPP STRIVE Primary.
