Bernita Walker
Bernita R. Walker is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Project: PeaceMakers, Inc., a Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence (D/IPV) program located in Los Angeles, CA, since 1995. She has been in the field of D/IPV for over 42 years where she began by co-founding Jenesse Center, a shelter for battered women and their children in South Los Angeles. Presently, she serves on the City of Los Angeles Domestic Violence Alliance, where she has been a member since its inception in 1994 and the co-chair of the Domestic Violence and Religion Committee for the Los Angeles County Domestic Violence Council. Since 1995 Project: PeaceMakers, Inc., under the direction of Ms. Walker has trained over 1,000 - 40hr DV/IPV advocates. Through the years she has made some 2300 presentations exposing the real issues of D/IPV. Ms. Walker volunteers with the Empowerment Congress in CD 10 as a member of the Public Safety and Justice Committee. Ms. Walker has served on the LAPD 77th Division Community Police Advisory Board (CPAB) since 1996. She was recently selected for the DA’s African American Advisory Board and the District Attorney’s inaugural Governance Board for south Los Angeles. She is a native Angeleno, residing in the 9th District 69 years of her life, and a graduate of USC in School of Public Administration. She is also a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Family for over 53 years where she served in the highest female office for the State of California as Grand Worthy Matron.
