Shanzeh Haider

Shanzeh Haider is currently a 10th grader at the American International School of Johannesburg. Born and raised in Washington, DC, Shanzeh moved to South Africa in 8th grade to uncover a long lasting passion for service, and being an activist against gender-based violence. In over two years of living in South Africa, Shanzeh has found ways to engage in her school and local community to raise awareness and take action on gender-based violence. Adding into those efforts, she presented at many showcases and a radio show, to showcase what she has done. In her extracurricular life, Shanzeh loves to play ice hockey, and was recruited to play with the South African National Senior Women’s Ice Hockey team. Unlike many, Shanzeh greatly appreciates applicative subjects such as math, science, social studies, and technology. She also enjoys writing poetry, and is a volunteer to tutor children from all across the world. Service learning is something Shanzeh has a true space in her heart for, and looks forward to the future where she can continue to raise awareness.
