Tara M. Avery
Tara Madison Avery is a cartoonist, editor, illustrator, and the publisher of Stacked Deck Press. She was co-editor and publisher of and contributing cartoonist to the Ignatz Award-winning We're Still Here: An All-Trans Comics Anthology, the first book of its kind. Her comics and illustration work can be found in anthologies such as Anything That Loves: Comics Beyond Gay and Straight, Death Saves: Fallen Heroes of the Kitchen Table, and The Out Side: Trans and Nonbinary Comics. Avery is also the cartoonist behind the webcomics Dirtheads and Gooch which prominently featured LGBTQ characters. She is a longtime LGBTQ activist having been a board member of the nonprofit organization Prism Comics for over a decade, and as the chair of the Los Angeles Bi Task force from 2013 to 2015 she was invited to take part in the White House Bisexual Community Briefing.
