Mishara Danielle Winston

Mishara is a former recreation and adventure therapist of 10 years who is passionate about the trauma healing benefits of play. A self proclaimed play historian & cultural healthcare nerd, she amplifies patterns of community leisure recreation history comparing them to current mental wellness needs. In her work, she helps communities celebrate the mental health care systems within their own cultures & health care professionals rejuvenate their own lives. Mishara is an adventurer since childhood, trauma worker since youth & therapist for almost a decade. Her life experiences include life-long body-honesty and separating from a multi-generational "faith-based” family cult at age 18, which influenced her commitment to whole community healing through self awareness, self accountability and self compassion. ??She continued that work through curiosity and deep faith in individuals, their bodies, their communities & their ancestors as experts on their own healing. Mishara believes bodies remember healing experiences, just like they remember harm. Playfully & creatively she invites all community members to engage in their own daily mental wellness, education and communal support alongside fellow decendants of mental health expert ancestors like you. She can be found curating an archive of Black, Brown & Indigenous play history called TRIBE THRIVE, accepting applications for the next cohort of healthcare professionals called CRAVE.
