Dr. Amy Chasteen

Dr. Amy L. Chasteen has over 25 years of higher education experience as a professor and academic administrator. Dr. Chasteen earned her Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Michigan, in addition to a Graduate Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies. She holds an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Tennessee and a B.A. from the University of Alabama. Throughout her career, Dr. Chasteen has been a passionate teacher and a committed administrator driven to improve the higher education environment with a data-informed mindset and strong equity lens. As Executive Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at the University of Southern Mississippi, Dr. Chasteen led institutional efforts around enrollment management, student success, and faculty development. Her accomplishments include creating a University Advisement Center, founding the Office of Online Learning, and establishing the Center for Faculty Development, which has since housed an award-winning Faculty Development Institute. As a Professor of Sociology, Dr. Chasteen’s current research focuses on understanding and meeting the needs of Gen Z in higher education and the specific role played by faculty as they teach and mentor today’s students. She presents her work at conferences and offers coaching and consulting to higher education professionals on leadership development, strategies for re-shaping the teaching and learning environment, and strategic management of multigenerational changes.
