Jennifer Thietz
Jennifer Thietz has been an RN for over 34 years and has a wealth of experience regarding the changing face of healthcare in the USA and the current needs of patients and nurses. She trained and worked as a nurse in South Africa for 18 years before immigrating to the USA in 2003, where she worked in acute care settings, including as an oncology nurse navigator in California for 18 years. In 2016, her book Navigating Your Cancer Journey: A Handbook for Cancer Patients and Caregivers by an Oncology Nurse Navigator won multiple awards. Jennifer is deeply concerned about the healthcare crisis, particularly the fate of nurses suffering from compassion fatigue and burnout. Her new book, Nurses Matter, focuses on nurses and a nurse movement for transformational change. Jennifer believes that nurses can turn the healthcare crisis around but need help to do that. In her book, she shares a new nurse model to address that, including a self-help program for nurses to lessen the effects of compassion fatigue and burnout. Jennifer reminds us that whether or not we are a patient now, we will likely be a patient in the future. She is passionate about helping people learn how to advocate effectively along their healthcare journey. She also believes a nurse movement for change is critical to healthcare recovery and will affect us all. jennifertheitz@outlook.com linkedin.com/in/jenniferthietz
