John Prater, D.O. Is a Vietnam veteran having served as a hospital corpsman with the First Marine Airwing. Following his military service he returned to college and following graduation attended medical school at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then completed a rotating internship at Brentwood hospital and a residency at Cleveland Clinic Foundation before relocating to Ft Myers Florida where he established a private practice. During the next 3 decades in addition to private practice he served as medical director at several inpatient and outpatient facilities, was principle investigator in over 150 clinical trials, served as a consultant for the Boston Red Sox and the Florida Impaired Practitioner program and attending psychiatrist for student health at Florida Gulf CoastUniversity. For many years he has been on the faculty and mentored student and resident physicians from Nova Southeastern, University of Arizona , Mayo Clinic, AT Still and Midwestern Osteopathic . For the last 6 years he has worked at the Phoenix VA where he hoped to give back to military veterans returning from the Middle East conflicts.
