Episode Description
It used to be that bullies would just steal your lunch money. But with changes in society and technology today, modern bullies prey on their victims through the Internet and at work, and too often cause their victims to commit suicide or murder their fellow students and co-workers. On this episode of On the Radio, Dr. Rey and Natalie hear from people who’ve suffered the torments of bullies and are determined to change the way society deals with its antagonists. Jesse Saperstein, the skydiving author of Atypical, Life with Asperger’s in 20 1/3 Chapters explains how he empowers victims through extreme sports, and Miss Alabama contestant Jessica Brookshire shows us that even beauty queens get picked on. University of Texas criminologist Nadine Connell introduces us to best practices against cyberbullying, and Charlotte Rayner, who literally wrote the book on workplace bullying, shocks us with tales of what happens when bullies refuse to grow up.
