Episode Description

Do you take modern life and conveniences for granted? Imagine if you could no longer find common products like diapers, toilette paper, condoms, milk or sugar. Imagine if it cost more for a bottle of water than it does to fill up your vehicle with gasoline. This is a reality in #Venezuela at the moment. When a country with incredible income from oil and gas resources is a third world country, there is definitely a problem with the system. What can we learn by exploring another culture that is experiencing economic and political turmoil at the moment? Can we in North America be setting ourselves up for greater abundance and freedom? Can we build better food systems, electrical systems and distribution networks into our society? How can we learn from the situation in Venezuela to Future Proof our lives and society?

Shane Wolffe

My name is Shane Wolffe and I work as a professional engineer with “Green Buildings” in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada, a city with one of the harshest climates that people live in. I am LEED accredited, trained by the Passive House institute, a Certified Energy Auditor and a certified Thermographer. I’ve worked as a consultant, a technician and as a manager for a start-up modular home building company. I've worked in pretty much every building type there is. I've seen a lot of issues but I've also seen a lot of solutions. I know that we can do much better, and if we do, we can build a much more sustainable world.

I’ve been fortunate to work with and learn from the best companies and minds involved with energy efficiency and green building. Unfortunately these companies often have difficulty gaining traction despite their value regarding the big picture. In other words, the green building industry has a marketing problem.

I firmly believe that this industry can reshape our economy and is necessary for the long term prosperity of humans and nature alike. The only way that this industry and movement is going to over-take the status quo is if regular folks understand how green building is of serious benefit to them, and they understand how to do it in an economical way. With this understanding I wrote my book and came up with the idea for my website. We will dive into this world so you can understand how you can help build a better one.
