Dr. Jeffrey Shaw, Ph.D.
Dr. Jeffrey S. Shaw is a New York State Licensed Psychologist who has been in Private Practice for over 20 years. His approach to psychotherapy is mostly cognitive/behavioral with some modern psychoanalysis. In modern psychoanalysis, patients lie down and talk but the therapist is still directive and supportive unlike traditional psychoanalysis where the therapist is mostly a “blank slate.”
Dr. Shaw has had about a 90% percent success rate in helping patients. He tries to create a supportive atmosphere where he ”gently” pushes people to make progress, but allows them to fail if necessary and hopefully still feel good about themselves. He is both a Psychologist and a Life Coach, and is very competent helping people move ahead by considering their own needs and desires as opposed to following any preconceived or societal expectations.
Dr. Shaw has written and recently released a book entitled, Psychopedia: 181 Life Principles to Help You Become Happier and More Successful, available on Amazon or by contacting Dr. Shaw directly. Prior to becoming a full-time Psychologist, Dr. Shaw had an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and worked for large corporations including Citibank. He taught at several New York City Universities, most notably at New York University’s Stern School of Business where he was an Adjunct Associate Professor for 27 years. He enjoys teaching in a fully understandable manner, and enjoys fielding questions from students, patients, and others.
