Episode Description

Maryann Beckman-Berman, owner of Healthy Spirals Yoga Ayurveda Meditation is on a journey to share ancient wisdom for improved health and peace of mind. The topic of her second episode, Crimes Against Wisdom, addresses a very important concept in Ayurveda as it is considered to be one of the three main causes of disease. Why do we do indulge in certain behaviors and consume foods that we know are not good for us? Why do we ignore and override many of the signs our bodies give us signaling imbalance? Have you ever held your urine so long you no longer had to go! Or goodness, your bowel movement, oh my! Perhaps, it is because, we do not know what we do not know. Maryann and her guest, Veena Haasl-Blilie, Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, meditation teacher, and monk heard their late teacher, Pat Layton, repeat that saying many times. Maryann and Veena met in 2008 at Kanyakumari Ayurveda School in Milwaukee while Maryann was enrolled in Pat’s Ayurveda Health Educator program. They are reconnecting again to share stories with you about how they now minimize the crimes against wisdom in their daily lives thanks to the ancient healing practices of yoga ayurveda and meditation. Veena fell in love with Ayurveda in her family’s home, learning about herbal remedies at her grandmother’s knee. These childhood experiences were the seeds of a lifelong passion. For over 30 years now, Veena has dedicated her life to the world’s oldest healing system: Ayurveda. She draws on this ancient wisdom to help others find their compass to a healthy life – and support those left wanting by Western medicine. An experienced Ayurvedic herbalist and nutritionist, meditation teacher, panchakarma specialist, Veena’s deep, intuitive knowledge of Ayurveda empowers her clients to reclaim their fullest, most vibrant lives –mentally, physically, and spiritually. Join Maryann and Veena as they share stories on their journey of fostering healthier habits for greater health and improved quality of life. Until they learned Ayurveda, they did not realize they were committing such crimes. Now they are passionate about sharing this wisdom with the next generation as their teachers did for them. Veena is the owner of Saumya Ayurveda providing Ayurveda consultations virtually or in-person at Corrales and Jemez, New Mexico and her hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
